With 11 Division 1A scholarship offers in the fold already, Darrell Givens is well on his way to being one of the most highly recruited cornerbacks in the East and perhaps the country. The 6-0, 179-pound junior turned in an excellent performance this past season, totaling 82 tackles with seven pass deflections, four forced fumbles, three interceptions, one punt return touchdown and one kick return touchdown.

Givens, who claims to run a consistent 4.45 time in the 40-yard dash, attended Friendly High School in Fort Washington (MD) his freshman and sophomore years. He gained valuable experience there, playing with a handful of Division 1A recruits. He also played on Friendly’s state championship 2006 squad. Givens transferred to Lackey High School (Indian Head, MD) before the beginning of his junior year and certainly made his presence felt.

“What makes me stand out from a lot of others is first off my size,” Givens said. “I wouldn’t say it is rare, but it is easier to find a 5-9 corner than a 6-0 corner. Then, when I want to play man coverage, my long arms help me out a lot. Another thing is how physical I play. If I’m in one-on-one coverage, I play physical.”
