Brookville (Lynchburg, VA) star Logan Thomas certainly is a hotly contested recruit – he boasts 18 Division 1A scholarship offers – but he appears to be an even hotter commodity in the state of Virginia. Virginia and Virginia Tech are each recruiting the 6-6, 225-pound athlete extremely hard, with the Cavaliers receiving the most recent visit yesterday.

“I visited to learn more in-depth things about the academic part,” said Thomas, who also celebrated his 17th birthday yesterday. He had been up to Charlottesville the previous week for camp as well. “I met the academic coordinators and some people from the business school. That’s what I’m looking into for my major. Of course, I talked to Coach [Al] Groh, Coach Lineburg and Coach Mike Groh. They shared their vision of me. Al Groh said he wanted me to be the face of the program, like Chris Long or Cedric Peerman . He sees me as that type of player and person. If I went there, I would be the leader of the team by my senior year.”

Being called a potential “face of the program” made a positive impression on Thomas, who said, “I’ve never heard anything like that before. Other coaches have just asked if I wanted to come to their school. Virginia’s coaches said they want me here and that I’m the top player they want.”
