UConn Scouting Report: Offense & Kicking

With 19 starters back in 2008, Connecticut figures to once again be in the mix for a Big East Championship. While the Huskies might lack the relative star power of some of the other Big East contenders, there is enough depth and talent on the roster to suggest that another run at the title could be in the offering.

The offense has a quarterback that fits UConn’s ball control offense, a veteran offensive line, a solid collection of wide receivers, a consistent tight end threat, and backs with decent ball skills to complement an efficient running attack.

Junior tailback Donald Brown opened the season with a career evening, rushing for 146 yards and four touchdowns as the Huskies took out Hofstra 35-3. After being shut out in the first three quarters in its game against Temple this past Saturday, UConn scored its first points of the game on a 36-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. Brown surpassed his open week effort rushing for a new career-best 214 yards and scoring the game-winning touchdown in overtime to give Connecticut the 12-9 win.

Virginia barely escaped Scott Stadium with a victory over UConn last season and the co-Big East Champions are seeking a little payback from their loss in Charlottesville. Since joining the Big East, the Huskies are 25-8 at Rentschler Field.
