With 93 home runs on the season, the Oklahoma Sooners (47-16) rolled into Charlottesville boasting some big sticks but it was the Cavalier boomers, along with a command performance by hurler Danny Hultzen, that was the difference in the Charlottesville Super Regional opener Saturday.
Phil Gosselin led off the contest with a home run, his 95th hit of the year that set a new Cavalier record for hits in a season, and Dan Grovatt’s 2-RBI blast in the sixth provided the margin of victory for Virginia (51-12) in a 3-2 win.
Sooner skipper Sunny Golloway called those two bombs the difference in the game.
