Recruiting Notes: Big Weekend

“Recruiting Notes” takes an in-state twist this week with a look at UVa’s 2012 recruiting on the offensive and defensive lines, as well as a look at a pair of in-state 2013 class signal callers that have already caught the attention of college recruiters. The big news of the week, though, is that Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) junior DE/WR Anthony Cooper plan to be in Charlottesville tomorrow.

UVa is the leader for Harold, who is considered by most (including me) to be one of the top two 2012 prospects in the Commonwealth. The Dolphins star took an unofficial visit to UVa in late April and had a great experience. A return visit weeks later is significant, and while nothing is certain, the possibility of a commitment exists.

At 6-4, 215 pounds, Harold is a top athlete capable of performing at a high level at several positions in college. Defense, though, is the likely destination, and defensive end or outside linebacker could be options. Certainly, he would provide a burst off the edge, so I’d look for defensive end to be his ultimate spot should he choose the Cavaliers.

Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) wide receiver/safety Anthony Cooper will be making his first visit to UVa since a junior day in February. There is no question Virginia is high on the 6-0, 180-pound prospect’s list, but to expect a commitment this weekend may be premature. Cooper recently told TheSabre.com that he wanted to make official visits before committing anywhere.
