Notes: Top Prospects Expected In Scott

It’s the Virginia Tech game and a berth in the ACC championship game is on the line. Saturday will also be huge on the recruiting front as some of UVa’s top targets, from high school seniors to sophomores, are expected to be in Scott Stadium. Good Counsel (Olney, MD) senior wide receiver Stefon Diggs , rated a 5-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com and a 4-star recruit by ESPN.com, tops the list.

The 6’1″, 185-pound speedster, a U.S. Army All-American, is one of the most highly coveted prospects in the nation. Diggs revealed a top 11 in early October, and the list consisted of Auburn, California, Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Oklahoma has since entered the mix as well.

The success UVa has enjoyed this season no doubt has helped Mike London’s chances with the Good Counsel product, who will reveal his final seven next on his birthday, November 29. Virginia looked to be a long shot early on in this race, but the sentiment right now is that UVa is a legitimate contender and the Hoos stand a good chance of making the final seven. Diggs plans to take all five official visits before committing.

Good Counsel should be well represented Saturday. We hear that senior running back Wes Brown may be there, but according to this report UVa is not currently in the speedy back’s top five. Virginia has its sights set squarely on the Falcons 2013 class, though, having reportedly offered safety Calvin Jones, quarterback Brendan Marshall , wide receiver Andre Levrone, linebacker Marcel Ngachie and linebacker/running back Dorian O’Daniel . All of these prospects are expected to be in attendance.
