Game Nuggets

  • Virginia owns a 34-13 all-time record over Wake Forest in a series that began in 1889. Since the series was tied at seven wins apiece in 1970, Virginia has won 27 of the last 33 meetings. The Cavaliers have scored 30 or more points in 13 of the last 19 meetings.
  • Four of the last five games between Wake Forest and Virginia each have been decided by four points or fewer. In 2007, Wake Forest’s latest trip to Scott Stadium ended in a 17-16 Virginia win. The Hoos own a 13-3 record against the Demon Deacons in Charlottesville.
  • On Oct. 20, 1990, Wake Forest hosted the No. 1 team in the nation for the first time in Groves Stadium history and the Virginia Cavaliers came away with a 49-14 win. UVa piled up 574 yards of offense, but that’s not Virginia’s best offensive game in this series. In 1982, the Hoos rolled to 643 yards of offense, which marks the only game in school history where the Cavaliers gained 300 yards both rushing and passing.
  • The Deacons are second in the ACC in fewest penalty yards per game with an average of 35.3 penalty yards per game. Virginia nearly doubles that number at 68.0 penalty yards per game, which ranks 11th in the ACC.
