Embiid Working To Narrow List To 3

Seven-footer Joel Embiid is expected to announce his college choice at a press conference on Thursday, November 15, one day after the start of Division 1 men’s basketball’s Early Signing Period. Right now, the Rock School (Gainesville, FL) star is considering five schools — Florida, Kansas, Marquette, Texas, and Virginia — with an eye towards cutting two from the list before this weekend.

“His mentor, [former UCLA Bruins and current Milwaukee Bucks forward Luc Richard Mbah A Moute], suggested he narrow the field from five to three this week so he can more easily go from three to one as the Signing Period starts next week,” Rock School head coach Justin Harden told TheSabre.com. “He is taking this opportunity now to work through his list. By the end of the week, maybe Thursday or Friday, I think he’ll have an idea.”

Harden says Embiid is talking to coaches from all five schools as he tries to make a decision. Scout.com reports that the standout senior will make an unofficial visit to Florida today. Embiid has taken official visits to all five finalists with Marquette getting the fifth and final official visit last weekend.

“He had a good visit to Marquette,” Harden said. “In fact, he said it was his favorite visit so far. He was excited about it. In the end, I don’t know how much that’s going to impact his decision. I don’t want to speak for Joel, but I think he’s really looking at his relationship with the coaches, his relationship with the players, and which program can help him get to the next level.”
