Nelson Opens Up Recruitment

Victory Christian Academy (Lakeland, FL) rising senior Chris Nelson is no longer committed to the University of Virginia. The 6’3″, 285-pound defensive tackle prospect informed Mike London of his decision on Tuesday night, almost eight full months after he initially pledged to the Cavaliers head coach.

“I de-committed,” Nelson confirmed to TheSabre.com.

On August 27, 2012, Nelson, a close friend of former VCA star/current Cavaliers rising sophomore linebacker Demeitre Brim , became UVa’s first recruit from the class of 2014. Virginia was the first school to offer, but others would follow suit over the course of the fall and winter months. Nelson now boasts full scholarship offers from Central Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue, South Florida, and of course UVa. Florida and Miami are among the other schools expressing serious interest.

It is known that Nelson has visited other schools besides Virginia throughout this year, including Florida, Miami, and South Florida. He did travel to Charlottesville earlier this month for the Cavaliers’ Spring Game.
