UVa Pursuing Georgia Combo Guard Mitchell

When Devin Mitchell moved from Chicago (IL) to Suwanee (GA) in the sixth grade, he decided to play organized basketball for the first time. It was a great decision, as Mitchell, now a 6’4″, 175-pound rising senior at Collins Hill High School, has accumulated numerous Division 1 scholarship offers including Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, Butler, Cincinnati, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia, Georgia State, Kansas State, LaSalle, Marquette, Miami, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia, Wake Forest, Xavier, and more.

“He is a scorer, a distributor… he’s everything,” Collins Hill head coach Eric Nathan said of Mitchell, a combo guard. “He developed from being primarily a shooter as a freshman and sophomore. As a junior, he became a scorer. Next year, he’s going to be a scorer and distributor.”

Coach Nathan expects Mitchell “to be one of the best players, if not the best player, in the region” this coming season.

“This is a talent-rich region, but Devin is or could be the best,” Nathan said. “I expect him to accept and embrace the leadership role and mentor our juniors and sophomores. When we’re not playing well, he’ll be the guy we turn to, to carry us.”
