DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) rising senior Cam Phillips has narrowed his college focus to five, including Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The 6’0″, 180-pound wide receiver prospect took a closer look at two of his finalists recently, checking out Rutgers last weekend and UVa on Tuesday of this week.

Last Saturday, Phillips and some of his DeMatha teammates headed up to Rutgers for a 7-on-7 tournament. Following the tournament, in which the Stags reached the semifinals, the entire DeMatha contingent was given a tour of the facilities and campus.

“It was nice. I enjoyed it,” Phillips said of Rutgers.

When visiting schools, Phillips wants to learn how interested the coaches appear to be in him, how close the coaches are with the players, and if he could see himself attending the school if football wasn’t available. How did Rutgers and Virginia stack up in those respects?
