Dowling Accepts Virginia’s Offer

Donovan Dowling didn’t need much time to consider the scholarship offer he received from the University of Virginia last Tuesday. While on Grounds on an unofficial visit on Sunday, the Varina (VA) senior verbally committed to Cavalier head coach Mike London.

“The more I thought about it I could see clearly what Virginia had to offer, knowing a Virginia degree can carry me throughout my life,” said the 6’1″, 200-pound Dowling, a 2013 first-team all-Capital District pick at wide receiver and cornerback. “I also know it’s a major football program.”

Sunday’s trip to Charlottesville was not Dowling’s first. He attended the 2013 Spring Game, attended a basketball game, and visited former Varina teammates including Tim Harris on occasion as well. Dowling was very familiar with Virginia for this most recent trip, but the experience solidified his college decision.

“When Coach London sat down and talked to me and when I met with the receivers coach, I Iiked what they were saying about creating character and building character. They are more interested in me becoming a better man, which shows they care about their players,” said Dowling, who also considered offers from Delaware, Hampton, JMU, Marshall, Richmond, and William & Mary.
