Thornhill Grew Up A Cavalier Fan

Altavista (VA) football standout Juan Thornhill verbally committed to the University of Virginia just over one week ago, becoming the first class of 2015 recruit to commit to the Cavaliers. The 6’1″, 170-pound prospect grew up a Cavalier fan, and now he’ll get his chance to don the orange and blue.

“I was going to wait, but I decided because it’s a good school to go to. I talked to my dad and my coach. My dad wanted me to commit the night that I got [the scholarship offer]. I kind of knew what school I wanted to go to. I wasn’t ready initially, but I thought about it and decided to commit,” said Thornhill.

Thornhill played wide receiver and defensive back on the Altavista varsity squad his freshman year. He has been the team’s starting quarterback and free safety each of the past two seasons. As a junior Thornhill has tallied about 1,200 yards rushing (over 1,800 yards total) while leading the team in tackles with 103.

“I’m being recruited as a free safety but it’s possible I could play many different positions. I’ll play anything,” said Thornhill, who feels he could play safety, corner, and receiver on the next level (check out highlights of Virginia’s newest recruit by clicking here).
