Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) defensive lineman Andrew Brown, a Virginia commit, has been named the 2013/2014 Gatorade National Player of the Year. The announcement comes a week after the 6’4″, 295-pound senior was named the 2013/2014 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Virginia.

USC freshman quarterback Max Browne won the award last year, while Texas running back Johnathan Gray was the recipient in 2011/2012. Past winners also include Peyton Manning, Emmitt Smith, and former Virginia Cavalier Terry Kirby. Click here for Brown’s profile on the Gatorade official site.

UVa fans can watch Brown and his Oscar Smith teammates in action in Scott Stadium on Saturday, when they take on Centreville (Clifton, VA) in the 6A state championship. Kickoff is set for 4:07 pm. The game follows the 5A state title game, which features L.C. Bird and Briar Woods.

Brown is also expected to play in the 2014 Under Armour All-American Bowl on January 2 before enrolling at UVa in January.
