Henrico (VA) sophomore Monte Buckingham (his first name is De’Monte, but he goes by Monte) impressed during UVa’s Elite Basketball Camp in August of 2013, so much so that head coach Tony Bennett extended a scholarship offer to the 6’4”, 190-pound wing soon after. Buckingham now appears to be a prime target of Bennett’s in the class of 2016, which will be an important one for the Hoos.

Virginia’s current sophomore class, which of course will run out of eligibility following the 2015/2016 season, consists of Justin Anderson, Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill, Teven Jones, Evan Nolte and Mike Tobey. No question Virginia will have some spots to fill.

“Coach Bennett said he really likes me. He said he’d like to get me in a Cavalier uniform,” Buckingham said.

UVa’s coaches have been very visible to the Richmond native. This season, “Coach Williford came out to like three games. Coach Bennett came to one during a Christmas tournament we had,” Buckingham said.
