Sabre Scoop: The Current In-State Landscape

Eighty-eight players have signed with the University of Virginia in Mike London’s first four full recruiting classes as Cavalier head coach. Over half (47) of those players hail from the state of Virginia. Coach London has shown he can recruit outside of the state – the Maryland/DC area, where the Cavaliers have gone to sign 13 recruits the past four classes, for example – but the importance of recruiting the home state is evident.

UVa’s lone 2015 Class commitment hails from the Commonwealth. He is Altavista athlete Juan Thornhill, a player with potential on both sides of the ball but who will likely play defensive back in college. Including those we have confirmed directly plus those reported by Rivals and 247Sports, UVa has offered 23 other in-state juniors at this point. Ocean Lakes (Va. Beach) wide receiver/athlete Jaason Lewis, who is one of those 23 recruits, recently came off the board after committing to UCLA.

Analyzing those in-state recruits Virginia has offered so far (look for more offers to go out over the course of the winter and into the spring months), let’s take a look at where the Hoos stand with those players at this stage of the process.
