More From Simmons’ Press Conference

In front of teammates, family and coaches, Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) linebacker Jahvoni Simmons announced yesterday his intentions to attend the University of Virginia, choosing the Hoos over Alabama, Miami, NC State and Wisconsin. The 6’1”, 230-pound prospect, who is 20 tackles away from becoming Ocean Lakes’ all-time tackle leader, gives Virginia its second 2015 Class recruit with at least one 4-star ranking from the four national recruiting outlets.

The press conference began with Dolphins head coach Chris Scott taking the podium and lauding Simmons as an exemplary student athlete. Scott acknowledged Simmons’ on-field achievements, which include earning a starting role on the varsity as a freshman, coming up big in big games, and earning a spot in the 2015 Under Armour All-American Game. Scott also discussed Simmons’ focus in the classroom – Jahvoni is already fully qualified GPA-wise and on his test scores – and activity in the community, which has included appearances at local elementary schools. Coach Scott emphasized to other Dolphins players that Simmons is essentially a role model for what he expects an Ocean Lakes student athlete to be.

The rising senior middle linebacker then made his announcement. Here is the footage…
