Confirmed Visitors: UCLA (Free Update)

Here is a rundown of those recruits TheSabre.com confirmed to be in attendance for UVa’s out-of-conference tilt with No. 7 UCLA. First, the commitments…

Cole Blackman, wide receiver out of Glen Allen (VA) (**Class of 2016 commitment)

Richard Burney Jr., tight end out of Hickory High School (Chesapeake, VA)

Rasool Clemons, 4-star defensive end out of South Aiken (Aiken, S.C.)

Jahvoni Simmons, 4-star linebacker out of Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA)

Juan Thornhill, safety/athlete out of Altavista (VA)

In addition to the committed prospects in attendance, UVa hosted…

Uncommitted linebacker/defensive end Ricky DeBerry Jr. The 4-star recruit, a senior at Atlee High School (Mechanicsville, VA), has been on Grounds multiple times this month and has made numerous trips to UVa. If Coach London can solidify his job status, I think the Hoos have a good chance to land DeBerry, who is also considering Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

An impressive group of prospects out of Virginia Beach (VA) Ocean Lakes High School that included the aforementioned Cavalier commit Jahvoni Simmons as well as junior cornerback Levonta Taylor, junior running back Justin Smith, junior safety Anthony Womack and freshman quarterback Tyler DeSue. Taylor, who is one of the top cornerbacks in the nation in his class, and DeSue have been offered by UVa.

Class of 2016 offensive line targets Josh Ball and Mike Carney. Ball, a 6’6”, 310-pound tackle out of Stafford (VA), and Carney, a 6’4”, 320-pound prospect out of Norfolk Christian (Norfolk, VA), have been offered by the Cavaliers.

St. Christopher’s (Richmond, VA) class of 2017 quarterback Alex Faniel. Faniel, who stands about 6’4”, earned an offer following UVa’s one-day camp on July 23. He also boasts offers from NC State and Virginia Tech.

Magna Vista (Ridgeway, VA) class of 2016 athlete Traveon Redd. The 5’11”, 185-pound Redd boasts an offer from Old Dominion. Nothing yet from UVa, but he is on the radar.

UVa’s performance on Saturday impressed at least two class of 2015 targets.

Hylton (Woodbridge, VA) offensive lineman Matthew Burrell was on his way to Blacksburg to watch Virginia Tech/William & Mary when he tweeted this…

and this…

Burrell, one of the most coveted class of 2015 prospects in the state, did not include either in-state ACC school in a Top 15 he revealed earlier this summer. He has since shown renewed interest in Virginia and Virginia Tech.

In addition to Burrell, South Carolina wide receiver/tight end Tavin Richardson tweeted the following…

Richardson tweeted a Top 5 on July 31. The list included Central Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska and Virginia Tech. UVa remains a consideration, though, and we’ll how things play out in the coming months.

Basketball Recruits

As expected, class of 2016 targets Mamadi Diakite, Ty Jerome and Curtis Jones visited UVa this weekend. All three prospects – players UVa has offered – were spotted in Scott Stadium on Saturday alongside Cavalier coaches and players.
