Petrishen Staying Patient With College Decision

6’3″, 200-pound senior John Petrishen showed why he is a major FBS athlete last week, in Central Catholic’s (Pittsburgh, PA) 52-34 victory over Penn-Trafford in the WPIAL Class AAAA semifinals. The only difference was Petrishen, recruited by most schools to be a safety on the next level, shined on the ground on offense, rushing 17 times for 211 yards in the win.

“Last week’s game was really special,” Petrishen said. “We are a running team. We rarely ever throw the ball, so the coaches decided to put me in at Wildcat to get some touches. I loved it!”

Petrishen has been a playmaker at receiver this season, totaling 18 catches for 354 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also returned four punts for touchdowns, and his ability as a punt returner has impressed UVa primary recruiter Mike Archer. The Cavaliers like him as a safety and would give him a look as a punt returner as well.

“Some schools are recruiting me as an athlete, but most for safety,” Petrishen said. “I love offense, so I’m willing to play any position that my college coach would like me to.”
