Recruiting Q&A: Landan Word

Late in the winter of 2014, Landan Word received a scholarship offer from the University of Virginia, the school where his father, Barry, starred at running back before moving on to a career in the NFL. Just over one year later, the 6’3″, 240-pound linebacker/athlete prospect decided to commit to the Cavaliers.

The younger Word, a rising senior, earned second-team all-state honors as a junior at Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA) this past season. He attended Gonzaga College Prep (Washington, D.C.) the previous two years and was a teammate of incoming UVa freshman quarterback Nick Johns.

In addition to UVa, Word also held offers from Boston College, Connecticut and Pittsburgh before making his commitment. Recently he took some time to discuss his commitment, football, and his father for a Sabre “Q&A.”

UVa has seemingly been high on your list for a long time. Why was now the right time to commit?
