Tight End Recruit Andrew Trainer Discusses Commitment To UVa

UVa was the first to offer St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Alexandria, VA) rising senior Andrew Trainer, a 6’7”, 235-pound tight end prospect. This fact isn’t the only reason why Trainer ultimately committed to the Hoos, but it certainly helped Virginia’s chances.

“Virginia was my first offer. They were definitely in the driver’s seat from then on,” said Trainer, who also received scholarship offers from Connecticut, East Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest, among others, before verbally committing to the Cavaliers last Friday, May 22. “Then, I had opportunities to get down there a few times and build relationships with the coaches. UVa is the total package.”

Trainer informed newly hired Cavalier assistant Chris Beatty that he wanted to go through the Spring Evaluation Period for the opportunity to get to know coaches from other schools. At the same time, the St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes standout also acknowledged that he might be close to a decision.

“I told Coach Beatty it was only a matter of time,” Trainer said. “They knew I was down to them and a few other schools.”
