The ACC finally released the league’s basketball schedules on Wednesday. Virginia’s quest for a third straight 30-win season features 30 games, including 15 appearances at the John Paul Jones Arena. The Hoos have compiled a 60-11 record over the last two seasons.
The schedule did not include any surprises for UVa. Most of the out-of-conference games already had been announced elsewhere with the exception of Lehigh, a rumored contest that had not been confirmed before Wednesday’s release. The Mountain Hawks come to Charlottesville on Wednesday, Nov. 25 (time TBA).
The marquee non-conference games are Ohio State (Tuesday, Dec. 1), Villanova (Saturday, Dec. 19), and California (Tuesday, Dec. 22). The Hoos also face potentially tough tests against George Washington, William & Mary, and Oakland in addition to Lehigh. The Charleston Classic before Thanksgiving could present challenges too.
While most of the out-of-conference games had been released, much of the ACC schedule had not. Virginia opens with Notre Dame on Saturday, Jan. 2. The Cavaliers face Virginia Tech, Clemson, Miami, and Louisville twice each. The Cardinals are the final game on the slate, a game set in Charlottesville on Saturday, March 5.
UVa matches up with Duke on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Durham. The Wahoos take on North Carolina in Charlottesville on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Virginia, of course, has won back-to-back ACC Regular Season Championships. The Cavaliers return three starters from last year’s winning version in seniors Malcolm Brogdon and Anthony Gill as well as junior London Perrantes. Returning seniors Mike Tobey and Evan Nolte also have been a factor in both of those title seasons too.
It will be easy for fans to watch UVa’s attempt at a three-peat because Virginia will be on television regularly. So far, 24 of the 30 games have been assigned specific TV slots. The Cavaliers will appear on the ESPN family of networks at least 21 times and they have a national game on CBS against Louisville as well.
