TheSabre.com Poll: How Many Wins Will The Virginia Basketball Team Achieve This Season?

Let’s be honest, you don’t want to talk about football much right now. So it is time to shift the focus of the polls.

This week, Virginia basketball takes over the spotlight . USA Today released the preseason coaches’ poll Thursday and the Hoos checked in at No. 6. Fellow ACC teams UNC (tied for No. 1), Duke (No .4), and Notre Dame (No. 18) made the list too. Non-conference opponents Villanova (No. 9), California (No. 14), and West Virginia (No. 23) are in there as well. That means UVa’s schedule features six teams in the preseason top 25 of the coaches’ poll.

It’s going to be a challenging road for a seasoned group. So with that in mind, this week’s poll question is easy:

Last week’s poll decided focused on non-conference scheduling for the Virginia football program. There are 22 opponents from Pac 12, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC that UVa has never faced in football. So …

Which Power 5 Opponent Would You Like To See On The Schedule For The First Time?

Much like the “who would you schedule again” question from the previous week (Vanderbilt with 15%), academic peer institutions led the voting. Northwestern claimed 21% of the vote and Stanford took 20%. SEC teams Mississippi (16%) and Alabama (10%) were next with Colorado 6%) and a Boulder trip rounding out the top five.

Unlike the previous week’s poll, UVa fans were more open to games west of the Mississippi River from this group. After potential repeat opponents UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon combined for just 18 total votes or a paltry 2% of the poll results, Stanford, Colorado, Nebraska, and California fared much better with 162 votes or 40% of the vote.
