Sabre TV: UVa Women’s Soccer’s NCAA Tournament Win Against Howard

Virginia, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament for women’s soccer, cruised in the opening round with a 7-1 win against Howard. The Hoos advanced to face UNC Wilmington in the next round.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 17 minutes thanks to two goals from Makenzy Doniak. Meanwhile, Emily Sonnett and the defense held the Bison without a shot in the first half. Doniak later added an assist on Ayan Adu’s first career goal.

“We played good soccer most of the night,” said Virginia head coach Steve Swanson. “We kept the game plan in mind, moved the ball quite well and generated good chances. I thought from the zero minute to the 90th minute we played well. Especially in the second half when some of our reserves came in, they did really well with some good combination play and opening up the field for us.”

Doniak and Sonnett joined Caroline Weaver on Sabre TV to talk about the win and the NCAA Tournament.
