Chances seem high that Doni Dowling and Juan Thornhill will post better numbers this fall than last. Between roster and coaching turnover, both players have picked up momentum in the first spring of the Bronco Mendenhall era. Dowling, a receiver, repeatedly came up when Virginia’s new football coaches were asked about some standout performers since their arrival. Thornhill, a safety, earned significant mentions as well.
”This was a good start this spring,” UVA offensive coordinator Robert Anae said. ”Doni Dowling, every day he brings his best football to the practice fields and boy that’s been refreshing and fun to be around, someone who has that kind of commitment to personal excellence. And there’s a couple of guys trying to be close to that.”
