RB Tre Harbison Reportedly To Transfer From UVA

Running back Tre Harbison seemed content with his experience so far at the University of Virginia; however, according to 247Sports.com, the Shelby (N.C.) native has decided to transfer after just one semester in Charlottesville.

We have yet to gain direct confirmation of Harbison’s plans. On his Twitter account, however, he has retweeted links to the story of his transfer, certainly an indication of his plans.

Harbison would be the third player to transfer out of the program this spring, joining offensive tackle Grant Polk and quarterback Nick Johns, who were entering the 2016 season as red-shirt freshmen.

After graduating from Crest High School last December, Harbison, who rushed for 5,770 yards in his high school career, enrolled on Grounds in January of this year. We spoke with the 5’10”, 218-pound running back following the Spring Game, and he gave no indication then that he was considering a transfer.

“I’ll tell you now that, working with Bronco, I’m in the best shape of my life and I can speak for most of the players on the team. It’s definitely a benefit for us to get Bronco. And it’s good to experience it together so we can grow and be more of a family,” Harbison said when asked what it was like to work under Bronco Mendenhall.

In addition to the transfers, place-kicker Holland Corbett, who enrolled in January of 2016 alongside Harbison and Matt Terrell and Christian Baumgardner, is also no longer on the roster.

While there has been attrition, UVA has added two transfers this spring in quarterback Kurt Benkert and offensive lineman Jared Cohen. Both players will be eligible this coming season. Benkert, who is graduating from East Carolina, will have two years of eligibility remaining. Cohen, who left UNC’s football squad early last season, has three years of eligibility left beginning next season.
