UVA Extends New Offer In The Class Of 2018

The first of three Division 1 men’s basketball recruiting Evaluation periods took place last week. The period was an especially successful one for Greenfield School (Wilson, N.C.) rising junior combo guard Coby White, who claimed scholarship offers from Providence, Iowa State and Virginia this past Saturday. It was the same day he poured in 24 points in an 84-78 loss to Each 1 Teach 1 in the first round of 16U Peach Jam bracket play.

Prior to bracket play, White helped Team CP3 to three straight victories in the Peach Jam 16U Sweet Sixteen last week. He scored 12, 18, and 17 points in wins over Georgia Stars, ProScholars Athletics Cardinals (N.Y.), and Team Takeover (D.C.). Team Takeover, incidentally, features forward Jalen Smith, another rising junior Virginia has offered. Coach Bennett reportedly was in attendance for the CP3 versus Team Takeover contest.

The 6’4″, 165-pound White made 49.1-percent of his field goals and averaged 17.8 points in the four games at Peach Jam.

“He’s a gym rat and he’s got the total game,” Greenfield School head coach Rob Salter told USA Today’s Jason Jordan in this article on White posted in November of 2015.

White now boasts eight scholarship offers in total, with the aforementioned schools joining East Carolina, St. Louis, Clemson and Wake Forest. He is the sixth class of 2018 backcourt prospect (point guard, shooting guard or combo guard) we have confirmed UVA has offered, joining Darius Garland, Prentiss Hubb, Keldon Johnson, Jahvon Quinerly and Brandon Williams.
