Promising NG/DT Prospect Mandy Alonso Recalls Why He Chose UVA

CBS Miami reporter Larry Blustein described Gulliver Prep (Miami, FL) rising senior defensive tackle and University of Virginia commitment Mandy Alonso as “a quality athlete who can do so much on both sides of the ball. He’s getting bigger and stronger. Alonso is quick off the ball and you could see how far he has come.”

Alonso, who according to Hudl.com measures in at 6’3”, 275 pounds, appears to be a good fit at the nose guard position in Bronco Mendenhall’s 3-4 defense. Mendenhall “liked most that I was fast, smart, tough, and hard working in everything that I do on the field,” Alonso noted.

Over 20 schools, including ACC rivals Georgia Tech and Syracuse as well as Big 12 member West Virginia, offered scholarships to Alonso before he announced for the Hoos on June 25.
