Virginia Makes The Cut For Top Offensive Tackle Target Mekhi Becton

UVA remains a top contender for Highland Springs (VA) senior offensive tackle Mekhi Becton, who announced his top five schools on Christmas Day 2016.

“First of all I would like to thank God for blessing me with the opportunities to have a chance to play at a school I want to play at,” Becton wrote in a tweet, which you can see below. “Second I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches for supporting me through out this whole process. Third I would also like to thank the schools that have given me the opportunity to play at their school. Here’s my Top 5 list of schools (NO ORDER):

Louisville #GoCards
Michigan #GoBlue
Michigan State #GoSpartans
Virginia #GoHoos
Virginia Tech # GoHokies”

Naturally, the 6’7”, 300-plus pound prospect tweeted the very next day that Oregon had become the 30th school to offer him a scholarship. Becton informed TheSabre.com via Twitter that the new offer “possibly” could impact his top five.

Of the schools on Becton’s current top five list, only Michigan has received an official visit. Becton can take four more official visits if he chooses. The Rivals.com and ESPN.com 4-star recruit has visited both Virginia and Virginia Tech multiple times on unofficial visits, and both in-state programs have made in-homes in late November/early December.

Becton helped Highland Springs repeat as 5A state champions earlier this month. He was named Group 5A first team all-state for his senior season performance.

UVA Recruits Recruiting

Chris Glaser Jr. took to Twitter to urge Becton to join Bronco Mendenhall’s first full recruiting class as Cavalier head coach. Glaser Jr., a guard/tackle out of Solon (OH), is one of four offensive linemen who have committed to the Hoos in 2017, joining center/guard Tyler Fannin and tackle prospects Ryan Nelson and Ryan Swoboda.
