UVA’s Kwiatkowski Competes For NCAA Singles Title

University of Virginia senior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski is looking to cap off an outstanding collegiate career with his first NCAA Division 1 singles title. He battles University of North Carolina freshman William Blumberg for the championship at 11 a.m. today (May 29). Cavalier fans can click here to watch the event streamed live through NCAA.com.

Kwiatkowski, who has compiled a 32-7 this season for the reigning ACC and NCAA team champion Wahoos, dispatched Stanford’s Tom Fawcett 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final. Fawcett had not dropped a set prior to the semifinal loss. Kwiatkowski defeated Oklahoma State’s Julian Cash, Vanderbilt’s Daniel Valent, No. 1 seed Mikael Torpegaard of Ohio State and no. 5 seed Christopher Eubanks of Georgia Tech in earlier rounds.

Blumberg (31-2), the ITA National Rookie of the Year, defeated Kwiatkowski in the 2017 ACC team semifinals and then again 2017 NCAA team final. Both were straight set victories. Blumberg defeated No. 2 overall seed Nuno Borges of Mississippi State in straight sets in the semifinals.
