Virginia Offers 6’10” Center Immanuel Bates

Fayetteville (N.C.) Northwood Temple Academy center Immanuel Bates tweets that he has received a scholarship offer from the University of Virginia.

Including Louisville, Georgetown, Xavier, South Carolina, and now Virginia, the 6’10” class of 2018 prospect has claimed five scholarship offers in total since the Live Evaluation periods began this month.

ESPN and Scout rate Bates as a 4-star recruit. ESPN ranks him as the no. 99 overall prospect in the nation in his class. Rivals ranks Bates as a 3-star and the no. 143 overall rising senior recruit in the country.

Bates played for Team Felton on the Under Armour Association AAU circuit this spring and summer, averaging 8.4 points on 64% shooting, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.4 blocks per game in 17 games. His 417 minutes played were second most on the team. This week he headed to Philadelphia for the UA All-America Camp, where UVA head coach Tony Bennett scouted Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

“The 6-foot-9 big man out of North Carolina recently blew up his stock as many high-major programs have offered,” Scott Phillips and Julius Kim wrote in this article on UA All-America opening night standouts. “On day one, he showed his solid touch around the basket. With his feel near the rim, Bates also showcased his ability to rebound on both ends of the floor. Bates finished with seven points (2-for-5 field goals) (3-for-6 free throws), six rebounds and two assists.”

Prior to the last five scholarships, Bates received offers from Cincinnati, Clemson, DePaul, Georgia Tech, NC State and VCU, among others.
