Devon Hall may wear the No. 0 for the Virginia basketball, but that number rarely shows up in key spots in the box score. That proved true again Wednesday night as Hall led the team in scoring and helped the No. 12 Cavaliers take down No. 6 Louisville, 61-53.

Hall tallied a game-high 10 points with 6 rebounds and 2 steals in the victory. He opened the scoring at Louisville with a step-back jumper and later added a shot-clock beating jumper that rattled home as well.

That sort of balanced line is becoming more and more common for Hall, whose patience and persistence with the Virginia program is paying off with production. Hall has posted at least 5 points in five of the last six games, including double figures in three. If you turn back to the end of last season, he recorded at least 5 points six times in the last 11 games. That gives him at least 5 points in 11 of the program’s last 17 games. That’s a fairly consistent string for a player that fills a secondary scoring role.

The recent surge in scoring came after Hall shook off a slow start to the season. A 1-of-5 shooting night at UNC Greensboro in the season opener and an 0-5 night in game three didn’t get him off to a good start to the season. He made just 3 of 14 shots (21.4%) in those first three games. Since game four, however, he’s been more steady other than a 1-7 outing against East Carolina. In the last nine games, he’s made 24 of 56 shots (42.9%). Take out that stinker against ECU and he’s made 23 of 49 shots (46.9%).
