When the NCAA Tournament bracket matchups were revealed on Sunday, it didn’t take long for Virginia basketball fans to start researching the opening opponent. Message board posters quickly had UNC Wilmington’s style of play, comparable teams, common opponents, and more up for discussion.
The answers to those, by the way, are:
- An up-tempo press team that shoots a lot of 3’s (style of play).
- Louisville and West Virginia (comparable opponents).
- Clemson and East Carolina this season, William & Mary and Duke last season (common opponents).
Fans weren’t the only ones taking a quick peek at the Seahawks, though. Devon Hall said players pull up some information on the opponent too and wait on the coaches to fill in the big picture and scouting report.
”I think you do a little bit of both,” Hall said. ”I think that some of the players do a little bit of homework, but we wait for the coaches too.”
