Woodberry Forest’s John Kirven Is A Hoo Once Again

John Kirven initially committed to the University of Virginia football program on October 20, 2015, when Mike London was still the Cavaliers’ head coach. Unsure of where he stood scholarship offer-wise with new UVA head coach Bronco Mendenhall, who wanted to see the 6’5″, 240-pound tight end/defensive end at camp this summer before making a final decision on an offer, Kirven de-committed from the Hoos on March 10.

Kirven impressed Mendenhall at camp last month, earning a scholarship as a defensive end (he was offered by London as a tight end). Today he announced that he is back in the fold as a Virginia commitment, becoming the 17th overall class of 2017 prospect to commit to UVA. He chose Virginia over offers from Central Florida, NC State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Yale.

Kirven attends Woodberry Forest (VA), a school the Hoos have enjoyed quite a bit of success in recruiting in this class. Quarterback Lindell Stone and athlete Terrell Jana also play for Tigers head coach Clint Alexander, and, like Kirven, they have also committed to the Hoos. Below is a rundown of Virginia’s entire 2017 Class to date.
