Weekend Visitors

Virginia men’s basketball hosted one of its top remaining class of 2013 targets this past weekend, when Rock School (Gainesville, FL) center Joel Embiid was in Charlottesville on an official visit.  The 7’0″  prospect is also considering Florida, Kansas, Marquette, Ohio State, and Texas.  He made officials to Texas and Kansas before heading to UVa.

Cape Henry Collegiate (Virginia Beach, VA) star senior Devon Hall, one of two players already committed to head coach Tony Bennett’s program, was also at UVa on an official visit.  The 6’5″ point guard pledged to the Hoos this summer.

Saturday was light in terms of turnout on the football recruiting front.  Only a handful of recruits were in Scott Stadium to see the Cavaliers take on Wake Forest, though there was at least one major class of 2014 target on hand in Chancellor (Fredericksburg, VA) offensive lineman Steven Moss.  Moss has been verbally offered by double-digit major college programs and appears to be one of Virginia’s top targets in the class of 2014.

In-state junior offensive lineman Jared Coker and Manchester (Midlothian, VA) wide receiver/athlete Jonathan Duhart attended as well.  Neither player has an offer at this point, though Duhart was mentioned in this past Friday’s Sabre Scoop.

Coker attends Briar Woods High School (Ashburn, VA), which has been one of the more successful varsity football programs the past several years.  The 6’3″, 190-pound Duhart is a player Manchester head coach Tom Hall believes will be a major college prospect before all is said and done.
