Handful Of Future Hoos Play Big

The “Week In Review” is a weekly feature.  It’s a look at how UVa’s recruits are performing throughout the 2012 season.  In case you missed anything, be sure to check out the bottom of this report for links to previous weeks.  In the meantime, here is how last week played out for the Cavs’ recruits…

Zach Bradshaw, LB/WR, Damascus (MD)

Damascus led 28-3 at the half and held on for a 41-24 win over Whitman.  The Hornets are a perfect 8-0.

Bradshaw was once again one of the team’s top performers, hauling in two catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.  His 56-yard touchdown reception put the Hornets up 41-10 in the fourth quarter.

Malcolm Cook, S/ATH, Fork Union Military Academy (VA)

Malcolm Cook had two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, as Fork Union overcame a 14-0 halftime deficit to defeat Collegiate, 32-14.  Cook added nine tackles as FUMA improved to 7-2 on the year.

Cook has compiled 14 interceptions on the season.

Hipolito Corporan, CB, Westside (Houston, TX)

Westside (4-3) had its bye week last week.  The team returns to action this Friday night against Houston Math Science & Tech.

Corwin “Turtle” Cutler, QB, Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA)

The Dolphins didn’t miss a beat after a bye week, blowing away Kempsville 65-0.  Cutler was outstanding, completing 12-of-16 passes for 245 yards and five touchdowns.  Ocean Lakes is now 8-0.

Jack English DT/TE, St. Christopher’s (Richmond, VA)

The Saints (5-3) have now won two straight after disposing of Episcopal last week, 41-8.

Kirk Garner, CB/WR, Andre Levrone Jr., WR, Brendan Marshall, QB, Good Counsel (Olney, MD)

Good Counsel is now 7-1, including a perfect 4-0 in the WCAC, after rolling over St. John’s, 41-17.  Marshall was the only Cavalier recruit to make the stat sheet, completing 4-of-10 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown for the run-heavy Falcons.  The team’s punter as well, Marshall averaged 28 yards per punt in three tries.

Tim Harris, CB, Varina (VA)

The Blue Devils blew out Henrico, 66-24.  Varina is now 4-0 in the Capital District, 6-1 overall.

Brad Henson Jr., OL, Monsignor Donovan (Toms River, N.J.)

The Griffins’ 4-game winning streak was halted by Rumson-Fair Haven, 31-0.  Monsignor Donovan is now 4-2.

Keeon Johnson, WR, A.L. Brown (Kannapolis, N.C.)

The Wonders are now 8-2 (5-1 in South Piedmont Conference play) after defeating Northwest Cabarrus, 49-20.  Johnson has missed a good portion of the season with a toe injury, and according to the Salisbury Post he may not be able to return to the field.   

Zack Jones, WR, Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA)

Jones had four catches for 55 yards and a score as Oscar Smith dominated Deep Creek, 58-0, to move to 7-1 on the season.  The Tigers are undefeated in Southeastern District play.

Micah Kiser, LB, Gilman (Baltimore, MD)

Gilman rallied to defeat Calvert Hall, 24-14, on Monday night.  Kiser had a key fumble recovery for the Greyhounds, who are now 6-2.

Jack McDonald, OL, Boston College High (Boston, MA)

The game was tied at seven at the half, but Everett ultimately pulled away from the Eagles (2-4) by a score of 28-7.

Taquan “Smoke” Mizzell, RB, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA)

Bayside improved its record to 7-2 with a 42-0 shutout of Princess Anne.  Mizzell finished the game with 16 carries for 86 yards and four scores.  The Pilot Online reports the shifty tailback has now scored 19 times this season.

Sadiq Olanrewaju, OL, Salisbury School (CT)

Salisbury has won all five games in its 2012 season.  Its latest win was over Kent School, 21-14.

LaChaston Smith, LB, South Iredell (Statesville, N.C.)

South Iredell was beaten by Newton-Conover, 31-21.  The loss was the team’s first in Catawba Valley Athletic Conference play since 2009 according to Statesville.com.  The Vikings fall to 8-2 overall, 5-1 in the conference.

Donta Wilkins, DT/OL, Potomac (Dumfries, VA)

Potomac extended its winning streak to three after downing Gar-Field, 48-13.  Potomac is 4-0 in the Cardinal District, 5-3 overall.

Chris Nelson, DT, Victory Christian Academy (Lakeland, FL), Class of 2014 recruit

Victory Christian fell to Landmark Christian, 53-28.  The Storm is now 2-5.
