ACC Announces Future Virginia-Notre Dame Football Games

The ACC announced future football years for league opponets to face Notre Dame.
Notre Dame played at Scott Stadium in 2015 and will return three more times by 2035.

The ACC announced additional dates on Thursday for league members to face football scheduling partner Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish agreed in 2013 to play five ACC schools per year in football, while joining the conference in all other sports.

Virginia picked up games with Notre Dame in 2026, 2031, 2034, and 2035. The Hoos already have the Irish on the schedule for 2019, 2021, and 2024. The games in 2019, 2024, 2026, and 2034 are set to be played at ND, while the 2021, 2031, and 2034 games are at UVA.

For fans who are wondering, this means that the Wahoos will face the Irish more often than almost every Atlantic Division opponents over the next seven years. The ACC has not announced in-conference schedule opponents beyond 2024. Virginia faces ND three times from 2017-2024, but only takes on NC State and Boston College twice each in that span, but will only see Clemson, Florida State, Wake Forest, and Syracuse once each. The Cavaliers meet Louisville from the Atlantic each season as their crossover rival.

The Cavaliers hosted the Irish for the first time under this scheduling agreement in 2015 when Notre Dame left Charlottesville with a 34-27 victory. In that contest, UVA took the lead on an 80-yard drive with 1:54 to go only to see the then-No. 9 Irish streak down the field and win on a Will Fuller touchdown catch from Deshone Kizer. That led to a reaction that has gained meme fame among fellow Wahoo sufferers and beyond.

“Sad Virginia Fan” Mike Bunting hung over the Scott Stadium wall in a heap. Here is a Cavalier Daily Q&A with him.

The only other meeting between the two programs prior to this series of games came in the 1989 Kickoff Classic at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. ND won 36-13.
