Rising seniors make up the majority of those top recruits invited to The Opening, an invite-only combine event featuring top prospects all across the country. Younger prospects do get invited, though, and Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) cornerback Levonta Taylor was one of those class of 2016 prospects to get the nod this year.

“The Opening was a great experience. You are playing against top notch kids. I had a good time out there,” Taylor said. “I was just blessed to be invited.”

Reflecting more on the event, Taylor said: “During the day, it’s nothing but competition because you don’t want to be on social networks or TV getting caught (laughs). Back at the hotel, it was chill. You talk about your school or recruitment. So it was fun. My main goal was to not give up a touchdown. I did that. I probably got caught on two or three times. Had a pick 6, matched up with (Alabama class of 2015 receiver commitment) Calvin Ridley pretty good. I was proud of that one, for Bama fans to see that.”

Off the field, Taylor learned some life lessons.
