With football season fast approaching, the Hoo Preview will provide some opponent snapshots in the coming days.

On Oct. 18, the Cavaliers travel to Wallace Wade Stadium to take on the Blue Devils. With last season’s dismal 2-10 finish, it’s easy to forget that Virginia led eventual Coastal Division Champion Duke 22-17 entering the fourth quarter of last season’s contest. Of course, the Devils ripped off 18 points in that final frame to win 35-22.

The media picked Duke to finish behind Miami in the Coastal Division in the preseason poll back in July. Since then, the Blue Devils have had a rash of injury issues during training camp. All-ACC linebacker Kelby Brown and starting tight end Braxton Deaver both tore an ACL and will miss the season. Duke also lost starting running back Jela Duncan to academics and change-up quarterback Brandon Connette to transfer.

That’s a lot of key contributors to work around down in Durham, but can the Hoos grab a win. A closer look at Duke follows.
