It’s a far too common topic in The Sampler series, but it needs to be revisited this week after two crucial interceptions in the game against North Carolina. Simply put, the Hoos have a turnover problem. Actually, check that, the Hoos have a prolonged, ongoing, program-killing turnover problem.

Too harsh? Not really.

Let’s start with the most recent ones, two interceptions from Saturday’s 28-27 loss to North Carolina. Greyson Lambert threw two picks that had significant consequences. The first came inside the 10-yard line and ended a drive that should have resulted in points. The second came on a drive that appeared on the verge of potentially putting away the Tar Heels, who trailed 27-21 when the interception occurred on a screen pass. That one led to UNC’s game-winning touchdown drive from only 38 yards away.

“It was a screen. We’re taught to look off away from the screen and then come back and throw it,” Lambert said. “I saw the lineman there and ultimately I should have thrown it in the dirt or tried to maneuver around a different way. Ultimately, I didn’t get it there and that’s my fault.”
