This past summer, Sonny Abramson and his family traveled to Charlottesville to visit the University of Virginia. The experience was a good one, despite the fact that the Pope John XXIII (Sparta, N.J.) quarterback was not able to meet with Cavalier head coach Mike London, who at the time was away from Grounds.

When Abramson, a junior, headed to Virginia this past weekend for another visit, the top item on the agenda was meeting with Coach London. Abramson and his family did just that early Saturday. Impressed, the 6’2.5”, 215-pound signal caller then gave a verbal commitment to the Virginia coach.

“UVa has always been a school I’ve had a lot of interest in,” said Abramson, who also considered Vanderbilt and Wake Forest as well as offers from seven other FBS schools. “It has great academics and the football program shows a lot of promise. When we visited, my family and I had a great meeting with Coach London. There is really so much about Coach London that I like. He is a great man with so much integrity. He cares about winning. He does, but he is really much more than just a football coach. He’s a life mentor and a teacher. To have a guy who is such a good guy be so passionate about what he does, it’s fun to follow a guy like that.”

For Abramson and his family, really the only concern with UVa was Coach London’s job status. That issue was addressed in the meeting, however.
