Griffin Sestili “Extremely Thankful” For UVa Offer

If receiving his first scholarship offer wasn’t memorable enough, how North Allegheny (Wexford, PA) junior Griffin Sestili learned about it is something always remember.

“It was on a Friday before a game when my coach (Art Walker) talked to me. He said he had to discuss some things with me after the game. We got up big so the starters only played two quarters. My mind was racing. Coach pulled me aside after the game. He said he knew I had been working real hard. He was talking about academic stuff. He said he had talked to Coach (Mike) Archer from Virginia. Then he looked at my dad – my dad coaches on the football team as well – and my dad had a giant smile on his face. Coach told me Virginia offered me a scholarship,” Sestili said.

“To know I finally can say I have a chance to play major college football is unbelievable to me,” Sestili continued. “I’m extremely thankful. It was cool to have my dad there to break the news to me, for him to be there and celebrate with me. When I left the locker room, I went out and my mom and grandma were there in tears.”

Sestili, a 6’3”, 235-pound tight end prospect, hadn’t spoken directly with Coach Archer before landing the scholarship, though he had received multiple detailed letters from the Virginia staff. A few days after receiving the good news, he called the Cavalier assistant.
