RB Wayne Taulapapa Wowed By UVA Visit

As BYU head coach, Bronco Mendenhall received a commitment from Punahou High School (Honolulu, HI) running back prospect Wayne Taulapapa. Mendenhall is once again looking to secure a commitment from the 5’11”, 205-pound senior; this time, though, it is as UVA’s head football coach.

Taulapapa lost his scholarship offer from BYU when Mendenhall left for Virginia and Kilani Sitake took over as Cougars head coach. The Hawaii native says Mendenhall offered him a spot in UVA’s class of 2016 “a while back.”

“I am very interested in the University of Virginia. It is probably a school that is my 1st choice,” Taulapapa wrote in a Twitter direct message. “Being that Signing Day is Feb 1 I am tied to Virginia.”

Taulapapa traveled to Charlottesville this past weekend for an official visit. He left impressed with the campus and, perhaps most of all, the camaraderie within the program.
