Virginia downplayed any revenge factor after falling at Virginia Tech earlier this season, but the Hoos did want to continue their recent string of quality outings in the rematch with the Hokies. The Hoos did just that, leading wire to wire for their seventh straight victory, this one a 67-49 triumph. UVA has trailed for only 1:19 during its last four wins.

The Double Bonus is back with a look at the recent rivalry W.

Screen/Roll Offense

Virginia found a lot of success against Virginia Tech with screen-and-roll concepts on offense. The Hoos tied in these looks within ‘sides motion’ – a common piece of the base offense – and in transition. In the end, they tallied at least 13 points out of screen-and-roll looks, good enough for 19.4% of the scoring production on the night.

Within the ‘sides’ offense, UVA scored on five possessions. Anthony Gill caught a pass early and made spin move on the block and later in the first half he dunked on a pass from London Perrantes. He also earned a pair of free throws in the second half and made one. On another first half play, Perrantes and Gill ran the screen-and-roll action but the VT defense smothered Gill so that left Evan Nolte open for an elbow jumper that he made. Finally, Mike Tobey scored on a mid-range jumper when he set the screen and then popped out to the wing for the jumper.
