Hopewell RB Ronnie Walker A Top Target Of UVA’s In 2018

One of the first class of 2018 scholarship offers Bronco Mendenhall extended as Virginia Cavalier head coach went out to Hopewell (VA) running back Ronnie Walker, who received the news last February 27 while in Charlottesville for a UVA football recruiting Junior Day.

“[Mendenhall] called me to his office,” Walker recalled. “I sat down with him, [UVA running backs coach] Mark (Atuaia), and my dad. He pulled out a sheet of paper and asked me to read it. On it he had written that I had a scholarship offer from Virginia.”

Walker won’t be able to receive an actual official written offer from Virginia, or any other FBS school, until August 1. However, Mendenhall’s gesture was a sign of his commitment to the talented prospect. UVA was the first school to verbally offer the 5’11”, 190-pound Walker, who appears to be a priority target for the Hoos in the upcoming class.

Coach Atuaia and Walker have kept in consistent contact since the offer, and the Hopewell star says the two have “built a good relationship with each other.”
