Catching Up With UVA Football 2017 Signee Tyler Fannin

With three starters gone from last year’s squad and not much established depth, the offensive line is a question mark for Virginia football heading into the 2017 season. Help is on the way in the form of three graduate transfers and five incoming freshmen.

Whether it’s assuming a starting role or just adding depth, the three graduate transfer players are expected to compete for serious playing time. The ideal scenario for the incoming first year class is to redshirt, but given the lack of depth that may not be a possibility. This is especially the case at center, where rising junior Jake Fieler assumed the starting job this spring following the departure of multiyear starter Jackson Matteo. There is no proven depth behind Fielder, though, opening the door for accomplished incoming freshman center Tyler Fannin to make an early impression.

Given his high school production and family pedigree, Fannin, a two-time AP Group 7A first-team all-state selection out of Mill Creek High School (Hoschton, GA), may be one of the best bets of all the 2017 Class linemen to see the field this coming season. Less than two months from arriving in Charlottesville for good, the standout prospect took some time to update his offseason and look ahead to his future.
