Virginia Remains In Contention For 3-Star Running Back Ronnie Walker

Duke, Indiana, Michigan State, North Carolina, NC State, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia, and Virginia Tech made the top 10 for Hopewell (VA) running back Ronnie Walker, who revealed his top schools on June 5, 2017. According to Blue Devils head coach Ricky Irby, the 5’11”, 190-pound rising senior originally wanted to commit before the start of the 2017 season. However, an earlier decision may be contingent on the timing of a Midwest trip the talented tailback is looking to make.

“I’m not sure if he wants to [commit before the start of the 2017 season] if he doesn’t take this trip,” Irby said. “He may use official visits to those schools.”

Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern, and Purdue would be included on the Midwest tour. If Walker needs to use official visits to see these schools, he may not visit all four programs.

How about UVA? Well, Hawaii native running back prospect Wayne Taulapapa, originally a member of Virginia’s 2016 Class, is expected to enroll next summer following the end of a 2-year mission trip. The Hoos still appear to be in the market for a running back in the 2018 Class, though, and the 5’11”, 190-pound Walker has been high on the board since receiving an offer in February of 2016. In fact, Walker was one of the very first class of 2018 scholarship offers Bronco Mendenhall extended after taking over as Cavalier head coach.
