David McCormack is a four star recruit for most recruiting services.

When asked to describe his own game Wednesday at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, 2018 center prospect David McCormack settled on an old school traditional big that is vocal and has a lot of energy. That’s an accurate self assessment and all of it was on display at the John Paul Jones Arena.

McCormack put together two strong outings as the first games of the Top 100 Camp got started. Playing on a team with other UVA prospects Jahvon Quinerly, Elijah Weaver and John Newman, he put up 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot in a 57-48 win in the first game. In the second contest, he tallied 8 points and 10 rebounds. McCormack made 10 of 15 shots (66.7%) combined.

The 6’10” and 279-pound recruit flashed great footwork in the post area, some ability to face up for moves, and the strength to play through contact. He has outstanding hands, vacuuming up rebounds and loose balls on the regular. That brings back thoughts of Jared Sullinger from past years at this event as both players just gobble up the ball when it is nearby. He also has an obvious motor, going hard on both ends of the floor while communicating throughout games. Those latter two traits are a big reason why, along with great timing, McCormack had double-digit rebounds in both contests.

Of course, the other end of the floor holds great interest for Virginia fans because that’s where everything starts for Tony Bennett’s program. McCormack showed good positioning and strength on defense as well, though he did lose verticality on one foul call in the first game of the day.
