Virginia Basketball Double Bonus: Syracuse

Virginia probably doesn’t like Syracuse very much these days. The Orange rallied from a double-digit deficit for the second straight meeting between the teams to get a win on Saturday. The Double Bonus is back for a closer look.

After leading by 12 points at halftime Saturday, UVA couldn’t keep the momentum going in the second half on the road. The eventual loss seemed to bother fans much more than the previous weekend’s heartbreaker at Villanova. Big leads that get away will do that to a fan base, especially if it comes to a team that kept your team from the Final Four. It’s understandable.

With that said, having another game back at home just two days later helps everyone move on. Louisville rolls into the John Paul Jones Arena on Monday night with the Associated Press’ No. 4 ranking attached. The good news? Now No. 12 Virginia defeated the Cardinals on the road 61-53 back in December. The bad news? The Cards trailed by 15 points at halftime and by as many as 21 points in the second half before a late run made things a tiny bit nerve-racking down the stretch.

The rematch should be interesting. First, however, the Double Bonus has one last look at Syracuse.
