Virginia Basketball Double Bonus: Louisville

Virginia took down Louisville on Monday night to the delight of fans in the John Paul Jones Arena and the Double Bonus is back for a closer look.

First, however, I thought it was notable that the win over a top 5 team received a fairly ho-hum lingering effect. In other words, once the game was decided and the Good Ole Song was sung … everyone packed up and went home. Business as usual.

That, of course, says two things. One, these are good times for the UVA basketball program. The Hoos have been ranked in the top 25 for three years running. They regularly pick up wins against ranked opponents. They’re 39-2 in ACC home games over the past five seasons. Fortunately, fans don’t leave the building with much disappointment in most seasons.

Two, the Cardinals came in short-handed and couldn’t keep up over the long haul. With two players out with injuries and two players out due to a curfew suspension, Louisville suited up only seven scholarship players. That’s the luck of the draw and Virginia took advantage of it.
